This is an interesting book, but I had a few problems with the world building. Holly Black took her idea and applied it to the past hundred years or so of human history, but didn't go beyond that. And while handwavium covers it well enough, it bothers me a bit.For example, in a world where touching someone with your hands can kill them if they have the right gift, handshakes would not have developed. I'm just saying.
