The Reading Jackalope

A Discovery of Witches

A Discovery of Witches - Deborah Harkness Technically I did not finish. I made it to about 58% and I just couldn't read anymore. I absolutely hate it when a plot stops for romance, especially when that plot involves life threatening circumstances. So there's that. I've also cheated a bit and read reviews of the later books and apparently you don't ever really find out why the Ashmole ### is so important. which means the plotting is poorly done. I've seen this book compared to Twilight and I can see the comparison. but not for plot reasons. I think Harkness and Meyers are both very talented story tellers. They can draw you into the story and make you want to know more. Sadly they are poor to middling writers and even worse at connecting the story and writing to make art. and thus the book is just ok. I have no desire to finish and will not be reading the others in this series.
